About Me

I grew up in New York City where I went to college, earned a degree in English, and thought I’d live and work forever.   Instead, I met a guy…we married and started our life together in the Peace Corps in a remote village in India.  Later, we settled down and raised our kids in a small rural community where I ran an antiques center, took art classes, and began to hone my aesthetic vision as a batik and stained glass artist.   I loved the interplay of light, color, form and texture in both mediums and ultimately found myself headed back to academia.   We moved to Amherst, Massachusetts, a small New England college town, where I raised my kids, earned a Masters degree in Interior Design and worked at the University as a Designer and Planner.

Several years ago, I began to make jewelry, incorporating semi-precious stones, recycled and sea glass as well as vintage beads in my designs.  With years of design and architectural experience behind me, I was back to my first love–combining color, shape, form and texture. As an artist, however, I felt the need to make the work entirely my own and was searching for a way to design my own clasps and focal beads. Metal Clay has turned out to be the perfect medium.  The sculptural process and the technical challenge, once surmounted, allowed me to produce one of-a-kind designs that satisfied my artistic interests.  I am ArtClay and PMC Certified and continue to take classes and workshops with metal and polymer clay artists I admire.  I am currently working with Hadar Jacobson, an internationally known Metallurgist, completing the teacher’s accreditation program  specifically designed to work with her Hadar’s Clays.    I have taught both locally at the Etta Studio and at various shows, such as Bead and Button and the Glass and Bead Expo in Las Vegas. Currently, I hold workshops in my home studio. I continue to expand my horizons and have begun to create my own cabochons using fused glass and polymer clay.  I established RU/LE Artisan Jewelry  to show and market my unique collection of individually designed high-quality and affordable jewelry.
