PolymerClay

  • P
olymerClay is a modeling compound discovered in Germany in 1930. Made from polyvinylchloride, color pigments and a plasticizer, it is available in dozens of colors which can be blended to produce additional colors and worked to produce effects such as marbling or caning. Polymer clay can be colored with paint, ink, dyes, colored pencil, chalk, metallic or mica-containing powder, metal leaf, etc. ¬†The clay is “cured” in a convection or toaster oven at around 275 degrees Fahrenheit to fuse the particles into a solid mass that does not shrink. ¬†Finally, it can be scrubbed and sanded and polished to a high sheen, if desired.
